Deadline: 03-Nov-2025
The Career Development program is designed to recognize and encourage arts professionals who have demonstrated exceptional artistic talent and potential, and who are pursuing a career in the arts.
The Arts by Invitation component is designed to promote arts in New Brunswick by assisting professional artists to present work by invitation in New Brunswick and at out-of-province established arts events of national or international repute; promote, encourage and increase the participation and representation of New Brunswick professional artists in arts festivals, events and exhibitions; and increase opportunities for New Brunswick artists to promote and disseminate their work.
The program provides artists with up to $3,000 in funding support. An artist may submit a maximum of one application in each of the three Career Development program components per deadline, and may receive only one grant per component per fiscal year. Eligible applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, individuals with an application for permanent residency in process, or those affiliated with a First Nation on Turtle Island. They must also have resided in New Brunswick for at least twelve months prior to the deadline, qualify as professional artists according to artsnb guidelines, and have submitted all relevant final reports for previous grants.
Eligible projects are those where the artist has been invited to perform, screen, or exhibit their work at an established festival, competition, venue, or exhibition, provided the event is located more than 150 km from their residence. Projects must begin at least one day after the application submission date. Collaborative projects are accepted if they follow the guidelines provided by artsnb.
Expenses that may be covered include subsistence, artist fees or per diems, as well as transportation, travel, and accommodation costs directly related to the project. Other expenses directly connected to the activities are also allowed. Ineligible expenses include capital costs, business and administration fees, and promotional costs, which are instead supported under a different funding program.
Applications must include a project description of no more than 350 words, a balanced budget, the artist’s CV, samples of work, and an official letter of invitation from the hosting party. If collaborators are involved, their CVs and letters of agreement must also be provided. Optional materials may include press clippings, critical reviews, and up to two letters of recommendation.
Jurors evaluate applications according to three criteria. Artistic merit accounts for 50 percent of the assessment and considers the rationale, relevance, originality, artistic potential, and potential impact on the artist’s practice, career, community, and discipline. Project feasibility accounts for 40 percent, focusing on the clarity of project activities, goals, work plan, the quality of the budget, and the demonstration of the artist’s capacity through samples and CV. Application quality represents 10 percent of the score and considers whether the project aligns with the program’s objectives and whether the provided materials are sufficient and well-presented. The deadline for application is 3 November 2025.
