Deadline: 24-Oct-2025
The Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board is offering a grant opportunity designed to support projects that contribute to the well-being, environment, and vibrancy of the local community.
With funding starting at $500, this programme invites individuals and organisations to propose initiatives that align with the values and goals set out in the 2023 Local Board Plan.
Funding is available across a wide range of areas, including arts, community development, the environment, events, heritage, and sports and recreation. Projects must show how they support one or more of the board’s focus areas, such as people, places, economy, and the environment.
Applicants are required to choose a specific priority that their project aligns with in order to be considered. These priorities range from promoting Māori culture and community pride to sustainability, biodiversity restoration, youth wellbeing, and local economic development. Other goals include creating welcoming public spaces, supporting active lifestyles, and providing age-friendly, whānau-centred programmes.
Applications that reflect healthy environment principles and contribute to Māori outcomes will be given higher priority. This includes projects that encourage smoke-free, alcohol-free, and zero-waste events, promote active living and healthy food choices, or support climate action and play for all ages.
While a wide variety of projects are eligible, some applications may receive lower priority. This includes commercial or ticketed events, the purchase of single-use equipment, or feasibility studies. Proposals that lack a financial contribution from the applicant or rely heavily on grant funding without exploring other sources may also be ranked lower.
Certain requests are ineligible altogether. These include costs for starting new businesses, salaries beyond a limited scope, and applications from groups that have not met past accountability requirements.
This grant offers a valuable opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the Ōtara-Papatoetoe community through creative, inclusive, and sustainable initiatives. Applicants are encouraged to focus on long-term benefits and alignment with the board’s strategic vision to increase their chances of success.
