The Novo Nordisk Foundation Prize for Science Teachers recognizes and highlights special efforts to educate and qualify the Kingdom’s future primary school science teachers.
Nature/technology, Physics/chemistry, Biology, Geography, and Mathematics are the key subject areas, alongside the priorities of educating, qualifying and motivating future science teachers, developing, using and sharing inspiring science teaching methods, participating in collaborations across disciplines or educational levels, and contributing to a stimulating scientific environment that supports both students and colleagues.
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Prize for Science Teachers in Teacher Education is presented annually and carries a total value of DKK 550,000. This includes a personal honorary award of DKK 50,000 for the teacher and DKK 500,000 allocated to the university college, intended for the development of science education such as upgrading facilities, purchasing experimental equipment, organizing excursions, or supporting development projects. The award also covers participation and accommodation for the winner at the Big Bang Conference 2026.
The award is targeted at teachers working within teacher training programs at the Danish National University Colleges of Applied Sciences, specifically those teaching subjects in the science block. Eligible candidates must have made a notable contribution within one or more of these subjects, and while not all listed criteria need to be met, emphasis is placed on achievements that advance science education.
Nominations can be submitted by student teachers and colleagues, but the formal submission must come through the head of education, dean, or rector at the respective university college. Importantly, the nominated teacher must consent to being nominated. Multiple candidates from the same university college may be put forward, and previous nominees who were not awarded are encouraged to reapply.
The deadline for applications is November 24, 2025, at 12:00 noon. Selected recipients will be contacted in February 2026, and the awards will be formally presented at the Big Bang Conference later that year.
