Deadline: 04-Oct-2025
The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund has launched an initiative in Rajasthan, India, to strengthen efforts in protecting children and adolescents from the harmful impact of unhealthy food and beverage marketing.
This project focuses on conducting a comprehensive legal and policy review, engaging experts, and building evidence to inform effective restrictions on such marketing practices.
The assignment will begin with a detailed desk review and key informant interviews. The desk review will analyze existing national and international laws, regulations, and guiding principles that restrict the marketing of unhealthy foods to children. It will also document global practices and lessons learned to draw relevant insights for the Indian context. At least five key informant interviews will be conducted with experts from law, advertising, child nutrition, health, and civil society organizations. The findings will feed into the drafting of two op-eds and a presentation deck, ensuring that both technical and advocacy perspectives are addressed.
A major milestone in this project will be the organization of a Jurists Colloquium, bringing together lawyers and judges to critically examine legal gaps and opportunities in regulating the marketing of unhealthy foods and beverages to children. This forum will serve as a platform for discussion and recommendations on how India can strengthen its legal framework to safeguard children’s health.
In addition, the selected partner will support the planning and delivery of a national dissemination workshop. This event will highlight the findings of the study, engage with policymakers, and share recommendations for action. Throughout the project, monthly progress reports, bi-annual review meetings, and continuous technical support will ensure close coordination with UNICEF and stakeholders.
The final output will be a comprehensive report compiling all research, analysis, and knowledge products. This report will outline clear policy pathways, practical recommendations, and strategies for advocacy, providing a roadmap for restricting the marketing of unhealthy foods to children in India.
