Deadline: 02-Nov-2025
Entries are now open for the Environmental Photography Award to reward photographers annually for their efforts to raise awareness of environmental protection.
It is considered one of the flagship awareness-raising events of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and a core pillar of its Green Shift initiative, dedicated to promoting inspiring environmental storytelling.
The five categories are Polar Regions, Forests, Ocean, Humanity versus Nature, and Changemakers. The winners receive grants and unique opportunities. The grand prize winner will be awarded €5,000 and an invitation to the opening ceremony of the exhibition in Monaco. Category winners receive €1,000 each. The Public Award includes a €500 grant and an invitation to visit the Amazon Research Station of the International University SEK in Ecuador, while the Students’ Choice Award also carries a €500 grant. All shortlisted photographers will have their work featured in the Monaco exhibition, the international tour, and the annual book.
The award is global and open to photographers of all nationalities who will be aged 18 or over on 2nd November 2025. Entry is free, and photographers may submit up to 25 images across the five categories. Submitted images must have been shot within the past five years, and entries must be uploaded through the Photocrowd platform. The jury places strong emphasis on authenticity, respect for subjects, and the responsible depiction of people, wildlife, and habitats. AI-generated or AI-augmented images are strictly prohibited, and shortlisted participants may be asked to provide RAW files and other supporting details for verification.
Each year, around 10,000 images are submitted, and from these, an international jury of professional photographers selects 36 finalists. The jury also decides the category winners and the overall Environmental Photographer of the Year. In addition, the Public Award and the Students’ Choice Award are presented, with voting for these prizes taking place online in March 2026. Application closes on 2 November 2025.
