Deadline: 31-Oct-2025
Women across rural Europe are being recognised for their transformative contributions to sustainability and innovation through the Rural Women Innovators Award.
Part of the GRASS CEILING project, this award celebrates women who are reshaping rural economies and communities through socio-ecological innovation.
The RUWI Award aims to elevate the visibility of women leading change in sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, forestry, and rural economic diversification. By spotlighting their achievements, the initiative supports broader goals of inclusion, sustainability, and well-being in rural areas, where women often play a critical but under-recognized role.
The winner of the RUWI Award will be officially announced on 21 November 2025 and will receive the opportunity to present their work at the GRASS CEILING Final Showcase Event, held at the European Parliament in Brussels on 3–4 December 2025. All travel and participation costs will be fully covered, offering not only recognition but a powerful platform for networking and impact.
The award is open to women innovators, as well as individuals and organisations that support or enable women’s leadership in rural innovation. This includes mentors, trainers, cooperatives, non-profits, companies, and community leaders who are helping create environments where women can thrive.
Eligible projects can span a wide range of initiatives—from developing sustainable business models and strengthening local economies, to mentoring women, building community networks, and challenging gender stereotypes. Innovations might include eco-tourism ventures, digital services, short value chains, or programs focused on equipping women with the tools, skills, and confidence to lead.
Ultimately, the RUWI Award not only celebrates the achievements of rural women—it helps shift narratives and structures that often limit their participation. By recognising and empowering women as key drivers of innovation and resilience, the award contributes to a more equitable and dynamic rural future for Europe.
