Deadline: 05-Nov-2025
The Polar Knowledge Canada (POLAR) is accepting proposals for the POLAR International Partnership Research Development Program.
The objective of this Call for Proposals (CfP) is to support existing research projects that could use additional funding to develop, support or increase international collaboration efforts for ongoing projects and activities in the Canadian Arctic and/or Antarctic region.
Up to $100,000 per project in funding will be distributed over two years to add or expand international research collaboration to existing projects based in the Canadian Arctic and/or Antarctic regions.
The funding will cover a range of eligible activities, including science and technology projects within POLAR’s framework, coordination among polar research communities, knowledge management, and support for the next generation of researchers, particularly Northern and Indigenous youth.
Eligible costs include materials and equipment, postage and shipping, professional fees, rentals, salaries and stipends, travel expenses, hospitality, accommodation, meals, tuition, and an administrative fee of up to 15% of total eligible expenses.
Costs must be reasonable, necessary, and directly related to project objectives, excluding ongoing operational expenses or excessive travel and hospitality expenditures. Direct labour costs, consultant fees, and contractor services must adhere to POLAR’s financial and eligibility guidelines, ensuring transparency, fair valuation, and alignment with project outcomes.
Eligible applicants include Principal Investigators based at Canadian institutions, organizations, or departments who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents and have existing Arctic or Antarctic research programs aligned with the stated Science and Technology goals. Typically, projects must have been ongoing for at least two years to qualify.
Applications must include detailed project descriptions outlining objectives, approaches, outcomes, and results within 500–750 words, along with an outreach plan of up to 250 words and a completed project activity workplan. The outreach plan should identify collaborative institutions, describe engagement strategies, and explain how the partnership enhances project visibility and impact. Applicants must also outline any risks, mitigation strategies, Indigenous research integration, and required licenses or permits.
Applications will be accepted until 15:00 EST on November 5th, 2025, and only successful applicants will be contacted.
