Deadline: 03-Dec-2025
The ACT Government is currently seeking applications for its City of Design Project Fund – Major Grants.
A new funding opportunity is now open for artists, designers, cultural organisations, and creative businesses based in Canberra. The Major Projects stream offers significant financial support for the development and presentation of high-quality and ambitious creative activities as part of the 2026 Craft + Design Canberra Festival.
Projects that take place outside of the official festival dates may also be eligible, provided they strongly align with the aims of the fund. This initiative is designed to encourage innovative ideas that demonstrate excellence in design and contribute meaningfully to Canberra’s vibrant creative landscape.
Applicants can request funding between $5,000 and $50,000, with approximately $500,000 allocated to the Major Projects stream in total. Funding will be offered in two stages for successful applicants—first for development in April 2026, and then for implementation in August 2026, following the submission of a milestone report.
This opportunity is open to individuals and groups, including those not formally incorporated. In such cases, a single representative must take on legal and financial responsibility for the funding, or an incorporated organisation must be nominated to auspice the project. Even organisations already receiving support through the ACT Government’s Arts Organisation Investment Program can apply, as long as the proposed project is new and intended for the 2026 festival.
Some types of activities are not eligible for funding under this stream. These include events that have already occurred, open studios, market stalls, activities tied to educational coursework or assessments, and any programs run by government agencies.
This funding stream presents a valuable chance for Canberra’s creative community to realise bold new ideas and contribute to a dynamic festival that celebrates craft, design, and innovation.
