The Goal Setter Awards – Toward a Brighter World organized by the Rotary Club of Port Nicholson, is an annual scholarship program that recognizes tertiary students in the Wellington and Kapiti regions who have demonstrated exceptional goal-setting abilities and resilience in overcoming significant personal challenges.
The awards aim to support individuals who, despite facing adversity, have shown determination in their academic pursuits and contributions to the community.
Each awardee received a $4,000 cash prize, generously funded by club members and external sponsors. Additionally, two other recipients were acknowledged with smaller prizes of $500 each. Erica Stanford, Minister of Education, who delivered an inspiring address, further highlighting the significance of the awards and the achievements of the recipients.
Eligible applicants must be enrolled in at least their second year of tertiary education in the Wellington or Kapiti regions, pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate degrees, National Certificates, or structured workplace learning for completing a New Zealand Apprenticeship. Applicants should demonstrate a history of goal setting and achievement, alongside contributing service to others, while having overcome significant barriers.
This initiative not only provides financial support but also serves to inspire and recognize individuals who exemplify resilience and dedication in their academic and personal journeys. The Rotary Club of Port Nicholson continues to celebrate and support these remarkable individuals, fostering a community that values perseverance and community service.
