Deadline: 17-Oct-2025
The Arts Council Digital Artist in Residence programme at the University of Galway offers a valuable opportunity for mid-career and established digital artists based in the Republic of Ireland.
The total fee for the residency is €18,000, with €13,000 contributed by the Arts Council and €5,000 from the university. The artist will receive direct financial support from the Arts Council, paid in two instalments. Throughout the residency, the University of Galway will provide dedicated desk space and shared access to a studio where the artist can develop their creative work. The university will also offer administrative support to facilitate the residency.
The residency is open to digital artists whose work aligns with the Arts Council’s definition of digital arts. This includes artistic activities that engage with digital tools and cultures, such as data art, computer software, and artificial intelligence. It also covers work that relies on digital technologies like video, virtual and augmented reality, digital lighting, and web-based art. Moreover, digital arts encompass creative outputs represented through digital platforms, including streaming theatre performances, sharing artwork online, streaming music, eBooks, and multimedia projects.
To be eligible, applicants must be residents of the Republic of Ireland with a proven background and expertise in digital arts. They must be mid-career or established artists who have not received public funding from the Arts Council or other sources for the activities they wish to develop during the residency.
The Arts Council is committed to promoting equality of opportunity in line with the Public Sector Equality and Human Rights Duty. This means actively encouraging applications from all individuals living in Ireland, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, civil or family status, religion, age, disability, race, or membership of the Traveller Community. Socioeconomic background is also recognized as an important factor in ensuring equal opportunity. The programme welcomes applications that reflect the rich diversity of Irish society.
At the end of the residency, the Digital Artist is required to submit a final report to the Arts Council, summarizing their creative journey and outcomes. This residency presents an excellent platform for digital artists to grow their practice within a supportive environment, fostering innovation and engagement with Ireland’s dynamic digital arts landscape.
