The James Kane Foundation offers funding opportunities to support initiatives that enhance education and career pathways in Northern Ireland.
The foundation focuses on two primary themes: enabling STEM-related education and career opportunities, and assisting students in making informed choices between employment and higher-level education pathways.
The foundation is open to applications from educational bodies, employers, charities, and social enterprises, with a particular emphasis on projects benefiting the Armagh, Banbridge, and Craigavon Council area.
The foundation allocates approximately £400,000 annually, with 75% designated for large grants and 25% for smaller grants under £25,000. Funding can be applied for multi-year projects and may be used in conjunction with other secured funding sources. However, the foundation does not fund projects that are the statutory responsibility of local authorities or government or those that duplicate existing initiatives.
The application process is structured in two stages. Stage 1 requires an Expression of Interest, including a project summary, governing documents, recent financial statements, and confirmation of safeguarding policies and insurance coverage.
