The Finnish Cultural Foundation provides support for the revival of the Finnish Romani language and Romani art and culture through a special purpose grant in 2023–2030.
The grant supports activities related to the Romani language and culture, including writing in Romani (books, scripts, or song lyrics), translating literature, conducting language research, creating learning materials, and organizing language teaching or revitalization initiatives.
Additionally, in the October and January application rounds, the grant can also fund projects promoting Romani art and culture in areas such as music, theatre, and visual arts. Eligible applicants comprise of private individuals, working groups, and registered associations. The grant may be applied for work, project costs, or both together.
The work plan should clearly outline what the grant is applied for, the working schedule, and the applicant’s competence. When producing learning materials, applicants must specify the planned distribution channels, and for creative written work or translations, it is advisable to include a preliminary publication channel.
Applicants preparing learning materials for schools can request a reference from the Finnish National Agency for Education, which must be submitted to the Cultural Foundation during the application period.
