Deadline: 14-Nov-2025
The Georg Eckert Institute (GEI) is pleased to announce the Georg Arnhold Senior Fellowship Program for Education and Sustainable Peace.
Its principal objectives are to bridge the gap between theory and practice, to foster international scholarly exchange, and to translate research findings into practical recommendations for those active in conflict resolution, thereby contributing to civil-society capacity-building. The output from the fellowship holder’s work should therefore preferably be policy papers, educational materials, research papers, or a larger publication.
The fellowship offers outstanding and experienced individuals in the field an opportunity to pursue a research or practice-related project in the area of education for sustainable peace, preferably focusing on educational media, during a six-month stay at the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media | Georg Eckert Institute (GEI) in Brunswick, Germany. The program encourages fellows to engage with other scholars and practitioners within the GEI’s network, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange.
The fellowship provides a monthly stipend of 3,300 EUR for six months, with the possibility of a shorter period of no less than three months. It also covers return economy airfare to Germany and offers administrative and publication support from the program coordinators.
Applications are open to outstanding scholars in the humanities, political and social sciences, education sciences, or law, as well as to distinguished practitioners in peace education such as journalists, government officials, or NGO leaders with high-level international experience. Applicants must demonstrate outstanding academic or professional achievement, at least five years of advanced professional experience in peace education, and evidence that their work or projects have made an exceptional impact.
The fellowship holder is expected to conduct work in education for sustainable peace, focusing on educational media, curriculum development, and transformation in societies. They will be responsible for the intellectual and conceptual design of the annual conference, present their project at the GEI’s research colloquium, and actively participate in the institute’s daily activities. The outcomes of the fellow’s project must be published within one year after the fellowship ends.
The application and selection process involves five stages: an online application with a 1,000-word project summary, pre-selection by the GEI, shortlisting by the Academic Advisory Board, submission of a full proposal by the top three candidates, and a final online interview. The final selection will be based on the quality of the proposed project and the candidate’s expertise, experience, and innovation as a practitioner or researcher.
The deadline for applications is 14 November 2025.
