Deadline: 30-Oct-2025
The Department of Human Services is requesting applications for its Supporting Regional and Remote Volunteers Grant Program for projects that build volunteer capacity in South Australia’s rural and remote communities.
This grant is designed to strengthen volunteer programs in regional and remote South Australia by providing organisations with the resources, training, and support needed to build inclusive and resilient communities.
Funding aligns with the Department of Human Services’ Social Impact Framework objectives, including belonging, connecting, building, aspiring, and creating, as well as the SA Government’s commitments under Closing the Gap, particularly increasing funding for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs through the Community-Controlled Sector. Grants up to $30,000 is available.
Funding cannot be used for core business costs, payments to board members, marketing and administration costs above 10% of the project value, retrospective funding, items for distribution as prizes or donations, emergency and food relief, first aid or emergency services equipment, grants writing or audit fees, research projects, feasibility studies, council or building approvals, or in-school volunteering programs. Projects previously funded by the Department of Human Services are also ineligible for top-up funding.
Eligible applicants include Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations, not-for-profit organisations, social enterprises with certification from Social Traders, and regional local government agencies. Organisations must meet specific requirements, such as being incorporated, operating in South Australia, having a valid ABN, and not having outstanding contractual obligations with the Department of Human Services.
Individuals, sole traders, for-profit organisations, trusts (except fixed trusts), educational institutions, and government agencies are not eligible.
Applications will be assessed competitively by an external panel with specialist expertise, based on the need, merit, and capacity of the organisation to deliver the proposed outcomes. Geographic and demand-driven considerations may also influence funding decisions to ensure an equitable distribution across South Australia.
Applications must be submitted before 3pm on 30 October 2025, with notification of outcomes expected after 1 January 2026, and the grant agreement period running from 1 March 2026 to 30 August 2027.
