The focus area of this opportunity is food security, with specialization in food assistance for assets. The selected partner will support WFP operations in the Region of Koulsé, Province of Namentenga, and the communes of Boulsa, Korsimoro, and Ziga.
The WFP supports the Government of Burkina Faso in its goal of achieving Zero Hunger by 2030 through initiatives that strengthen the capacities of the most vulnerable populations. Working with government agencies, NGOs, associations, the private sector, universities, and research institutions, WFP applies its triple nexus approach (3PA) to develop strategic and operational partnerships under the Resilience Initiative. This initiative focuses on creating productive assets and facilitating access to essential basic social services through participatory community planning. It also reinforces Burkina Faso’s leadership in resilience and aligns with regional efforts to strengthen socio-economic, food, and nutritional resilience, while addressing the effects of shocks and climate change.
The Resilience Initiative promotes agricultural productivity, health, education, and sustainable livelihoods. It is guided by WFP’s global framework launched in 2022, which aims to protect food systems before, during, and after crises, restore natural resources, link production to consumption, promote healthy diets, and create enabling environments for food systems. Since 2018, the WFP resilience programme has rehabilitated more than 50,000 hectares of degraded land and assisted over 550,000 people across more than 300 villages affected by food insecurity and climate shocks, including areas near conflict zones. Recent studies indicate that the integrated resilience programme helped reduce humanitarian needs for nearly 400,000 people after harvest and about one million during the 2022–2023 lean season.
Through this programme, WFP seeks to enhance access to safe and nutritious food by restoring ecosystems, supporting smallholder farmers, reducing import dependence, and strengthening national food sovereignty. The organization’s interventions align with Burkina Faso’s national priorities, strategic frameworks, sectoral programmes, and the agro-pastoral offensive for food sovereignty.
This call for proposals aims to select a cooperating NGO to implement integrated resilience programmes and reduce malnutrition in the target areas. The selected partner will oversee on-the-ground activities, including the distribution of food and cash-based transfers (CBT) for participants involved in productive asset creation. Eligible nonprofit organizations must be officially registered and operational in Burkina Faso, with demonstrated experience in resilience, food security, and community development.
