Unitaid is seeking proposals for investigating the heat stability of health products in the context of climate change.
Health products such as pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, and medical devices are increasingly vulnerable to rising heat and humidity caused by climate change, threatening their stability, safety, and effectiveness across the supply chain.
The call focuses on three key objectives: strengthening the evidence base of real-world conditions and worst-case scenarios that health products face under climate change; mapping the solution and opportunity space for improving heat resilience of health products; and advancing solutions through proof-of-concept projects that mitigate heat vulnerability.
This strategic investment, valued at approximately USD 10 million, will serve as a foundation for future research and action at the intersection of health and climate change, with an emphasis on countries like Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, India, Senegal, and Brazil. By driving innovation and knowledge sharing, Unitaid aims to safeguard access to high-quality, heat-resilient health products for the most climate-vulnerable populations.

The scope also includes identifying and prioritizing practical innovations such as heat-stable formulations, energy-efficient storage systems, protective packaging, and adaptive logistics models that minimize environmental stress. Moreover, Unitaid emphasizes collaboration with governments, local communities, and global health partners to ensure solutions are contextually relevant and scalable.
