Deadline: 26-November -2025
The Limerick City and County Council is pleased to announce an open call for the Limerick Theatre Bursary Awards Scheme.
This scheme aligns with key local and national cultural strategies, aiming to strengthen Limerick’s creative landscape by supporting artists and collectives, fostering innovation, and encouraging public engagement with culture.
It seeks to empower theatre practitioners by providing time and financial resources to develop high-quality new work, enhance Limerick’s profile as a regional and national theatre hub, and nurture creative projects that contribute to the city’s cultural growth and identity.
Three Bursaries of up to €5,000 each are available, funded by Limerick City and County Council. Applicants must apply under their own name, with all related documentation, including bank and tax details, corresponding to the applicant.
Certain costs are ineligible under this scheme, including non-artistic activities such as sport or tourism, operational or administrative costs, alcohol, fines, legal fees, and expenses related to academic pursuits not contributing to professional arts practice. The bursaries, available until 31st December 2026, are intended for professional artists based in or operating substantially within Limerick City and County.
Open to artists at all stages of their professional careers, the award provides financial support to facilitate the creative process. Applications from individuals engaged in full-time undergraduate or postgraduate education during the bursary period will not be considered eligible.
To apply, applicants must submit a completed application form that includes a 500-word project proposal, curriculum vitae, a proposed timeline indicating that the project will commence in 2025, and a proposed budget.
Submissions must comply with technical requirements such as file size and format restrictions, with the total attachment size not exceeding 18MB. Applications must be submitted by email before 5pm on Wednesday, 26th November 2025, as late submissions will not be accepted.
Funding over €1,000 will be distributed in two instalments—80% upon approval and 20% after the submission of a project report. Recipients are required to draw down funds by Friday, 7th November 2026. Projects must be implemented within the approved timeframe, and any significant changes or rescheduling must be communicated promptly to the Limerick Arts Office.
The application process is competitive, with submissions reviewed initially by the Arts Office for eligibility before being assessed by a panel appointed by Limerick City and County Council. Successful applicants will receive a Letter of Offer outlining specific licence terms and feedback will be available upon request.
All creative rights remain with the applicant, and successful projects must adhere to any specific conditions outlined in the Letter of Offer. Projects involving work with children, vulnerable adults, or animals must comply with national legislation and Limerick City and County Council safeguarding policies.
The deadline for applications is 26 November 2025.
