The African Center for Economic Transformation is accepting applications for its Young Leaders in Research Grant Program to support early-career African researchers in economics and related fields to lead policy-relevant, context-driven research that advances Africa’s transformation agenda.
Topics of Research include Gender Equality, Regional Integration, Innovation & Digital Policy, and Green Industrial Transformation.
The program offers comprehensive support to emerging researchers, including up to $15,000 in research funding, mentorship from ACET Senior Fellows, opportunities for peer learning and networking, and participation in relevant events where possible. Selected participants will also gain the chance to publish and present their research, enhancing their visibility and contribution to policy discussions. The duration of the Program is 12-month.
Eligibility for the program prioritizes African nationals or applicants holding permanent residency in African countries. Candidates should demonstrate leadership qualities and a strong commitment to making a positive impact in Africa and beyond.
Applicants must be 35 years or younger at the time of application and have completed or be enrolled in a master’s degree or higher. A background in economics or related fields is required, along with demonstrated interest in research through coursework, internships, volunteer work, or personal projects, including participation in academic or community-based initiatives.
To apply, candidates must submit a concept note of up to 800 words, a statement of purpose of up to 500 words, a CV, and two academic or professional references.
The final application deadline is November 21, 2025, with interviews scheduled for December 8, 2025. The selected cohort will be announced on December 18, 2025, and the program will commence on January 1, 2026.
