Deadline: 1-December-2025
The focus areas emphasize the role of animals in supporting mental health and trauma recovery, addressing legal and diplomatic aspects of animal welfare, examining the environmental and technological impacts of war, exploring cultural and social representations of animals, highlighting the resilience of families and shelters during evacuation and conflict, and sharing stories of international adoptions that connect Ukrainian animals with new lives abroad.
The initiative underlines that community reporters can serve as powerful voices for responsible reporting, shedding light on issues that intertwine human, animal, and environmental welfare.
The competition offers a total prize fund of 100,000 UAH, which will be distributed among the winners, with the grand prix award reaching up to 30,000 UAH.
In addition to recognizing excellence in storytelling, the competition seeks materials that document efforts in the rehabilitation of animals evacuated from war zones, highlight the work of volunteer hubs and shelters in frontline areas and address the devastating impact of war on the environment and wildlife.
Stories of successful adoptions and responsible treatment of animals are equally encouraged, as the organizers emphasize the importance of showcasing both individual and collective efforts that contribute to a humane and sustainable future.
By combining analytical insight with compassion, the competition aspires to build a bridge between journalism, empathy, and environmental responsibility. Applications for the competition are open until December 1, 2025, inclusive.
