Deadline: 12 December 2025
The Thieme Group in collaboration with IUPAC and the Editors of SYNTHESIS, SYNLETT, SYNFACTS, and Science of Synthesis has announced the Thieme–IUPAC Prize for 2026 to recognize outstanding contributions in the field of synthetic organic chemistry.
The 2026 Thieme–IUPAC Prize will be presented to a scientist who must be within the first 15 years of their independent research career. The candidate’s research must have had a major impact in synthetic organic chemistry. The prize will be awarded based on scientific merit for independent research dealing with synthesis in the broadest context of organic chemistry, including organometallic chemistry, medicinal and biological chemistry.
This prestigious award, presented every two years on the occasion of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry – International Conference on Organic Synthesis (IUPAC–ICOS), includes an award of €5,000. It is intended to honor young independent researchers whose work demonstrates creativity, innovation, and significant influence in the advancement of synthetic methods and applications. The focus on early-career researchers highlights the commitment to nurturing emerging scientific talent in organic synthesis.
Nominations for the prize must include a biographical sketch of the nominee, a list of the candidate’s ten most significant publications, and a statement detailing how the nominee’s research has had a major impact on the field of synthetic organic chemistry. All submitted materials will be confidentially forwarded to an independent selection committee responsible for evaluating candidates based on scientific merit and research impact.
By recognizing excellence in synthetic organic chemistry, the Thieme–IUPAC Prize continues to foster global collaboration and inspire the next generation of researchers to push the boundaries of chemical synthesis and its interdisciplinary applications.
