The Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF), in cooperation with Diplo Foundation, invites promising young professionals to apply for a place in DCAF’s 2016 Young Faces Conference (YFC) on Strategic cybersecurity policy development in Southeast Europe.
With distance learning activities and a three-day workshop from 29 November to 1 December 2016 the participants will discuss the difficulties of creating effective cybersecurity policy, which is holistic and evidence based, they will learn to better assess challenges of implementation of regulatory frameworks and functioning mechanisms in cybersecurity.
The programme aims to equip young professionals from Southeast Europe with some tools for developing and implementing cybersecurity policies.
Programme Topics
Specific topics and skill areas that will be covered include:
- The main cybersecurity issues and how they relate to other policy areas, stakeholders involved;
- Strategic goals in and tools for cybersecurity governance;
- Developing a cybersecurity strategy;
- Multistakeholder involvement in policy discussion and implementation, including international and regional discussion mechanisms.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the programme, applicants must:
- Be no more than 35 years old on 31 December 2016;
- Be public officials, corporate sector representatives, graduate students or members of civil society or the media from the Western Balkans, Croatia or Moldova;
- Hold a graduate degree (or be enrolled in a graduate degree programme) or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline;
- Have a very good command of English, spoken and written.
- Be willing to commit to actively participate in all Network activities:
- Be available to participate in a three-day workshop (to be organised from 29 November to 1 December 2016 in Belgrade, Serbia;
- Be available to take part in an interactive online classroom environment and an online preparatory session in form of a webinar (for this, participants need access to the Internet) and;
- Be prepared to engage in research aimed at developing a 1’000 word policy brief (assignment).
