The Kitchener Waterloo Community Foundation (KWCF) is seeking applications for its COVID-19 Arts Sustainability and Recovery Fund that has been established as a one-time initiative that will provide $225,000 to small and medium sized arts organizations and collectives located in Waterloo Region.
This fund reinforces KWCF’s approach to encouraging self-led activities. A Volunteer Committee has been formed, comprised of people from the arts community across Waterloo Region.
Funding Information
- Approximately $225,000 in total funding is available;
- Applications will be accepted for a grant of up to $20,000.
What will be funded?
- General expenses and/or programming expenses to help arts organizations/collectives sustain themselves and/or recover from the impacts of COVID-19. Examples include:
- People costs (wages, support to staff, mental health and wellness, consulting fees etc.);
- Materials and supplies;
- Equipment purchase, rental, lease and maintenance;
- Administration costs;
- Technology costs;
- Printing and communication;
- Community outreach and engagement;
- Adapting current programming;
- Research pertaining to organization/collective’s sustainability and recovery from COVID-19.
- The following expenses are not eligible:
- Fundraising expenses;
- Grants to individuals;
- Endowment requests or deficit reductions;
- Political or religious activities;
- Activities outside of Waterloo Region.
Eligibility Criteria
- Small or medium-sized arts organizations or collectives. (For purposes of this funding, that means the total annual revenue of organization financial year that concluded in 2019 did not exceed $500,000);
- Organization/collective is based in Waterloo Region, and has been providing services and/or programming to people in Waterloo Region since January 2019, or earlier;
- Organization is:
- A registered charity or qualified done;
- Partnering with one of those so the fund can provide them with a grant on applicants behalf.
- The fund will give priority to funding organizations/collectives that value and embody the concept “nothing about us, without us” within the applicant’s organizational structure and programming.
- Preference will be given to applications that can demonstrate the impact of the funds that will be received. Things to consider are:
- How will our community benefit from this funding?
- How many people will it support and how will they be supported?
- How will this funding help with a need(s) caused by COVID-19?
How To apply?
The COVID-19 Arts Sustainability and Recovery Fund will be accepting applications between October 28, 2020 and November 18, 2020 at 5:00 pm (EST).
- The maximum amount to apply for is $20,000.
- Funding must be used before December 31, 2021.
- Applications will be considered from small or medium sized arts organizations or collectives that are registered charitable organizations, or qualified donees, recognized by Canada Revenue Agency.
- It will also provide funding to organizations who partner with one of those.
