The U.S. Embassy Moscow’s Public Affairs Section (PAS) is pleased to announce Media and Information Grant Program for Nonprofits and CSOs in Russia in Russia, which supports American and Russian engagement in the area of traditional and citizen journalism, press freedom, and media literacy.
PAS Moscow invites proposals for projects that promote an understanding of freedom of the press, good journalistic practices, increased access to reliable information, and improved media literacy for the Russian people. The proposal can also promote a broader understanding of a free press and society’s need for free access to information. Competitive proposals should also include a connection with American expert(s), organization(s), or institution(s) that will promote increased cooperation between the people of the United States and Russia even after the program has ended.
Themes
Proposals can include, but are not limited to, the following themes:
- Journalism
- Promote improved investigative journalism and raise awareness of how investigative journalism can identify issues of social concern and report on illegal, irregular, or abusive actions;
- Examine the rights and responsibilities of a free press in a democratic society;
- Information
- Improve access to information to Russians, especially young Russians and those from traditionally underrepresented or at-risk communities;
- Create toolkits to better detect misinformation and disinformation.
Funding Information
- Length of performance period: 2 to 12 months;
- Number of awards anticipated: 20 awards (dependent on amounts);
- Award amounts: awards may range from a minimum of $500 to a maximum of $200,000.
Participants and Audiences
- U.S. and Russian nonprofits, institutions of higher education, NGOs and civil society, museums, parks, reserves, and community organizations. Corporate entries and individuals may only receive grant funding in limited circumstances.
Eligible Applicants
The Public Affairs Section encourages applications from U.S. and Russia (edits, or includes all that apply):
- Registered not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks and civil society/non-governmental organizations with programming experience;
- Individuals;
- Non-profit or governmental educational institutions;
- Governmental institutions;
- For-profit or commercial entities are not eligible to apply.
