Deadline: 30-Apr-21
The City of Canada Bay is seeking applications for the Local Heritage Grants Program to encourage conservation work.
Aims
The aims of the Local Heritage Grants Program are to:
- Encourage work on heritage items and in heritage conservation areas within the City of Canada Bay.
- Assist in reconstructing missing details to heritage items and encourage conservation work that enhances the public domain within the City of Canada Bay.
- Encourage interest and awareness in the conservation of heritage sites within the City of Canada Bay.
- Promote a positive community attitude towards heritage conservation within the City of Canada Bay.
Funding Information
- Dollar for dollar grants are available of up to $3,000 to owners of heritage items and up to $2,000 to owners of contributory buildings in conservation areas.
- For the 2020-2021 financial year, there will be a total of $26,000 in funding to be distributed.
Eligible Projects
To be eligible the project must:
- Involve work on a heritage item or a contributory building within a heritage conservation area as identified within the Canada Bay Local Environmental Plan 2013 and Canada Bay Development Control Plan.
- Written minor works approval must have been obtained for the work. (A copy of the minor works approval letter must be included with the application.)
- Applications should be made for work carried out in the last year (i.e. in the year prior to the date the application is submitted).
- Work must be undertaken by a tradesperson. Grants are not provided for time worked on a project by the applicant or for goods purchased by the applicant.
- Works that contribute to the presentation of a heritage item to the general public will be given priority.
- Council will require evidence in the form of paid tax invoices and photographs that the work has been carried out and paid for, and of the final cost of the work.
- The cost of the work of a single nature cannot be split between separate grant applications made in successive years (Examples: Tuckpointing of the front façade would be considered a single nature project, however painting of the windows of the front façade of the same house would be work of a separate nature and so a grant application for this work could be made in a successive year.)
- Council will require evidence that the cost of the work represents good value for money. More than one quote should be sought for the work if possible. Work needs to be carried out to a high standard and in accordance with good conservation practice, preferably by tradespersons experienced in conservation work.
Application Process
- Applications can be received at any time and are only accepted for work that has been completed and paid for. In addition, a minor works application must have been approved for the works.
- Applicants should:
- Read the Local Heritage Grants Program Guidelines.
- Provide a copy of the minor works approval letter.
- Provide a detailed description of the proposed works, and where relevant, sketches of work/plans.
- Provide ‘before, during, and after’ works colour photographs.
- Provide evidence of costs (tax invoices).
- Applicants are encouraged to contact their Heritage Advisor prior to works being commenced to confirm whether projects are appropriate for funding. Proceeding with works prior to discussions with their Heritage Advisor could result in ineligibility. The closing date for applications is Friday, 30 April 2021.
- Council’s Heritage Advisor is at Council on Mondays and Tuesdays by appointment only. To speak with the Heritage Advisor, contact Council’s Customer Service Centre.
- To find out if your property is listed as a heritage item or a contributory building in a conservation area, refer to Schedule 5 of the Canada Bay Local Environmental Plan and Appendix 1 of the Canada Bay Development Control Plan. You can also search the property details on the Council’s DA and Property Enquiry tool.
