The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine announces an open for Ukrainian media organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to raise journalistic standards, ethics, and capacity of smaller, especially regional outlets through training and platform building.
Program Objectives
- Support media organizations to build capacity of regional media outlets to uphold high journalistic standards; develop sustainable business models; promote media literacy; and counter disinformation with high quality journalism and compelling content.
- Promote regional and national professional networks among smaller media outlets across Ukraine.
- Funded projects will over, but will not be limited to the following areas:
- Promoting high-quality, credible journalism by training journalists on ethical standards; audience analysis for different platforms, explanatory journalism, storytelling, news production, investigative reporting, and other tools to raise the quality of journalism among small, regional outlets.
- Encouraging small and regional media outlets to produce innovative content.
- Sustaining existing networks among small and regional media outlets by encouraging them to collaborate and share ideas for content and effective business models, monetizing online content, and developing successful advertising strategies.
- Improving Media Literacy by providing journalists with practical tools to understand and identify manipulative messages and empowering them to embrace their role to provide high quality and credible information to the public.
Funding Information
- Length of performance period: 6-12 months
- Number of awards anticipated: 1-5, pending availability of funds
- Award amounts: awards may range from a minimum of $40,000 to a maximum of $70,000
- Total available funding: $350,000
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible Applicants: Ukrainian independent media organizations.
- Cost Sharing or Matching: Cost sharing is not required.
- Other Eligibility Requirements: In order to be eligible to receive an award, all organizations must have a unique entity identifier (Data Universal Numbering System/DUNS number from Dun & Bradstreet), as well as a valid registration on SAM.gov.
