Nomiantions are open for the Young Woman of the Year Award 2017 with an aim to recognise and celebrate young women with a migrant or refugee background who provides essential support and inspiring leadership at grassroots level to others attempting to start a new life in the UK.
The Young Migrant and Refugee Woman of the Year is an award for those who will be aged 30 or under in March 2017.
Eligibility Criteria
- Any woman who self-defines as a migrant or refugee can nominate herself or be nominated by someone who knows her work well. However, she must:
- be 30 or under in March 2017
- consent to be nominated
- have been actively involved in community work in the UK during the last 12 months. Community can mean many things – for example, it may be defined geographically, on the grounds of country of origin, or it may be a community of interest.
- work to support migrants and/or refugees to settle in the UK, although this work does not need to have been with or for women, or on gender issues.
- Young women nominated for this award do not have to lead nor work within a legally constituted organisation, their contributions can be as part of paid or volunteer work.
- The remit of the awards are to recognise women who are supporting communities to belong in the UK, so any work internationally or ‘back home’ needs to be explained in terms of how it helps communities to settle in the UK.
