The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan is pleased to announce an open competition for eligible organizations to submit applications to carry out a project that will use sports as a platform to develop critical life and leadership skills and empower young women and girls to be a force for positive change.
This cooperative agreement seeks to increase girls’ and women’s equality and empowerment through participation in athletics. The fundamental goals of the program are to inspire young women to engage in public life, learn civic leadership skills, and be active agents advocating for social change in their communities, including promoting civic virtues such as tolerance and equality for all.
Project Objectives
To reach this project goal, proposed projects should strive to:
- Increase awareness and knowledge among participants about gender-based violence and prTraining, Events, Workshops and Conferencesion
- Strengthen critical athletic skills (e.g. teamwork) and leadership skills (e.g. self confidence)
- Promote concrete measures to widen participation for women and girls in public spaces within their communities and beyond
- Create and strengthen participants’ social networks within their communities and beyond
Funding Information
- Number of Awards Anticipated: One to Two
- Anticipated Award Amount:
- The floor for the base period is set at $600,000.
- The ceiling for the base period is set at $900,000.
- Funding Type: This project will be funded by Economic Support Funds, authorized by Foreign Assistance Act, and is subject to the statutory limitations of such funding.
- Anticipated Performance Period: 36 months
Project Audience(s)
- Afghan young women and girls, including those who are differently abled mentally or physically, will be the primary audience for this project.
- Parents and community leaders in multiple provinces will also benefit.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligibility is open to all types of applicants except for individuals.
- Organizations may sub-award/contract with other entities, but only one entity may be the prime recipient of the award.
- When sub-awarding/contracting with other entities, the responsibilities of each entity must be clearly defined in the proposal.
