The City of Calgary is inviting proposals for the Change Can’t Wait! Calgary’s Mental Health and Addiction Investment Framework to test innovative ideas that bring change at the individual, family, community, and policy or system levels.
Objectives

- More Calgarians report a strong sense of community and belonging
- More Calgarians experience strong social support/ availability of natural supports
- Improved ability to cope with stresses and strains of everyday life
- Increased opportunities for Calgarians to connect within their communities
- Improved knowledge about mental health and addiction
- Getting help: What you need, when, where and how you need it
- Improved knowledge among Calgarians about how to access help for mental health and addiction issues when needed
- Improved access for Calgarians to mental health and addiction services through coordinated points of access
- Reduced unmet needs reported for people experiencing mental illness who access formal mental health and addiction services
- Improved access to shared data between organizations that facilitate client care
- Staying safe: Security at all times, especially in a crisis
- Improved perception of personal safety by Calgarians within their community
- Increased availability of non-emergency mental health and addiction support and outreach services available 24/7
- Increased availability of community and peer support programs
- Improved access to court diversion programs
- Decreased proportion of 911 calls involving police for persons experiencing mental health crises
Funding Information
- Through this call for funding proposals, there is a minimum $700,000 plus leveraged funds from the Community Investment Table in funding available for Change Can’t Wait!. There is no maximum or minimum amount that can be requested. However, the requested amount should be proportionate to the type of proposed activities and timelines.
- Projects can launch as soon as funding is approved starting in July 2021. Approved projects will receive funding for a 6 month period and must be completed by Jan. 31, 2022.

- Organizations that submit ideas requiring funding will need to be registered to operate in Alberta. The opportunity is not limited to non-profit or charitable organizations. For example, businesses, faith groups, community associations, academic & public institutions are all eligible.
- Project eligibility
- It must be a new idea. This fund is not for expanding or enhancing established programs.
- If you need to make purchases or to test your idea, that cost is eligible for funding. The cost to maintain and operate may also be covered during the 6 month test period. However, no funding will be provided for ongoing maintenance, operation or staffing following the test period.
- Staffing costs are eligible for the 6 months period only, with no expectation for extension.
- Pilot projects have to benefit Calgarians.
- Individuals with great ideas will be required to find a qualified organizational partner to apply.
- Organizations that submit ideas requiring funding will need to be registered to operate in Alberta. The opportunity is not limited to non-profit or charitable organizations. For example, businesses, faith groups, community associations, academic & public institutions are all eligible.
- More than one idea may be submitted, using a separate application form for each distinct idea.
