The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India (DST) and the Ministry of Science, Technology is seeking proposals for its program “Waste Management Technologies (WMT) Program”.
Priority Areas
DST is inviting project proposals in the following specified areas:
- E-Waste (Electrical & Electronics Waste): Recycling & Recovery
- Development of simple indigenous material recovery technology for specific applications (precious & other metals, plastics, glass and rare earths) in collaboration with industry.
- Green Product development and Design for recycling.
- Industrial Hazardous & non-hazardous Wastes
- Mining Waste: Overburden, Tailing Pond
- Metallurgical Waste
- Cost effective treatment of refractory organics
- Recycling/recovery of value added materials from hazardous/nonhazardous wastes
- Solid Waste from Chemical Industry (such as adsorbents like ion exchange resins, activated carbon, clays, membranes)
- Membrane rejects and Salts
- Industrial sludges
- Industrial spent solvents and chemicals
- Newer technologies for Biomedical Waste
- Urban & Rural Solid Waste, including Plastic Waste
- Existing Landfills: Gas Extraction, Leachate Treatment, Material Mining, Remediation, Value-added Material Recovery
- Non-recyclable packaging material
- Household hazardous waste
- Construction & demolition debris
- Co-digestion of sewage sludge
Program Categories
It is proposed to support projects in three categories, as below:
- Level-I: Proof of Concept/ Seeding Projects of up to 1-year duration, to generate new technology ideas & develop prototypes. Level-I category is open to research establishments. Level-I projects will not be provided equipment money; Research Associates at post doc can be utilized.
- Level-II: Joint Technology Projects between Research Institutions and Industry for (a) Technologies already developed at some level, but yet to be implemented at scaled up level, & (b) Technology adaptation, in projects led by academic institutions, with the participation of industry.
- Level-III: Scaling up of proof of concepts or existing pilot plants by a factor of 10 to 25.
