The Scotiabank is now accepting applications for projects that will advance research and leadership in support of global decarbonization efforts.
As part of its continued efforts to combat climate change, Scotiabank has established a $1,000,000 Net Zero Research Fund (NZRF) to initiate partnerships with leading think-tanks and academic institutions that are supporting key sectors in their efforts to decarbonize.
To further the understanding of pathways to a net zero global economy, Scotiabank has established the NZRF to:
- Stimulate research, dialogue and understanding of the shift to a net zero emissions global economy by 2050 or sooner in order to achieve the objectives of the Paris Agreement
- Identify initiatives that require investment to accelerate adoption or scale of application
- Strengthen relationships between academic and non-profit research institutes and the corporate sector through collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Continue to inform the Bank’s climate change strategy and views on the transition to a net zero global economy.
Themes
Through this initiative, they seek research proposals that deepen society’s understanding ofthe requirements and possibilities to accelerate the transition to a net-zero emissions future by 2050 or sooner.
- Detailing of potential pathways for decarbonization:
- Identification and quantification of novel carbon sinks (sources of carbon sequestration)
- Emerging and innovative financing mechanisms to support acceleration of decarbonization efforts
- Public policy changes required to enable or facilitate more rapid decarbonization
- Areas of innovation that need to be better understood or funded to accelerate decarbonization pathways
- Levers for increasing consumer or industrial demand for drastically lower / zero carbon technologies.
Relevance to Scotiabank’s primary markets (Canada, US, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile) and/or core business activities is an asset.
Funding Information
- Scotiabank willawardgrants from a minimumof CAD $25,000 up to amaximum of CAD $100,000 through this 2021 call for applications.
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible for funding through the Scotiabank NZRF, partner organizations must be registered not- for-profit or charitable organizations in their jurisdiction.
- Any Not-for-Profit or Registered Charity in Canada, US and Latin America.
