The U.S. Embassy New Zealand Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Department of State is pleased to announce an open competition for organizations interested in submitting proposals to organize a comprehensive program designed to showcase the best of U.S. and New Zealand green and blue technology to established New Zealand leaders.
“Green and blue technologies” are those which are environmentally friendly and promote sustainable ocean activities, clean energy, or products that use alternative fuel technologies.
This conference program will create ties between the U.S and New Zealand innovative tech and business industries to increase the use of blue and green technology and improve climate resilience to ensure that they are better prepared to address challenges together in the future.
The location of the conference should be in New Zealand, with preference given to Auckland. The conference should take place before September 30, 2022.
Goals
Goals of the conference should include:
- Showcasing the best of U.S. and New Zealand green and blue technology;
- Developing the knowledge and skills of established leaders to adapt blue and green technology in their lines of work and encourage others to do likewise;
- Ensuring that leaders see the United States as a committed, long-term partner in solving regional and global challenges, especially climate resilience
- Building a network of leaders that can share best practices and collaborate on shared challenges.
- Design and implement a 2-day program for up to 100 leaders to take place in late 2022 or early 2023 (specific timing to be determined in partnership with the U.S. Embassy New Zealand taking into account COVID-19 travel restrictions). Demonstrating planned coordination with partner organizations knowledgeable in the region is highly encouraged.
- The program should accommodate delegates from throughout New Zealand.
- Proposals should include a plan for promoting the conference application across the nation and identifying and selecting delegates in partnership with U.S. Embassy New Zealand.
- Delegates should be drawn from throughout New Zealand with a track record of making positive impacts in their community, institution, or company.
- The program should include substantive interaction with U.S businesses and universities as well as government representatives, non-government organizations, Maori iwi, and think tanks.
- Proposals are encouraged to include opening and closing events, to include key speakers from a broad cross section of sectors and to include speakers from both the United States and New Zealand.
- Proposals are encouraged to include sessions on topics such as research and development, intellectual property rights, environmental stewardship, blue and green technology in business, and the future of blue and green technology.
- Participants and leaders should have formal and informal opportunities to network with each other to develop collaborative relationships that will persist after the conference’s conclusion.
- Diversity and Inclusion: In keeping with U.S. values and the priorities of the Administration to promote diversity and inclusion, applications must clearly articulate how diversity and inclusion principles will be integrated into the program.
- Proposals are encouraged to follow the U.S. Embassy New Zealand’s Greening Diplomacy Initiative by utilizing sustainable practices in planning and implementing the conference.
- Proposals should include management of travel and lodging logistics for all speakers, and implementing partner staff, as well as venue(s). Proposals must show how grant funds will be used to cover the cost of the venue, transportation, visas, travel insurance, lodging, and meals or per diem for speakers and staff.
- Proposals should include a plan for publicizing the conference, to include both traditional and social media, as appropriate, in partnership with U.S. Embassy New Zealand.
- Proposals should include a plan for evaluating the program’s goals, including pre- and post-event surveys of participants.
- Proposals should include a description of the applicant’s experience with U.S.-New Zealand relations and event organization as well as experience in and/or ties with organizations.

Eligibility Criteria
- U.S. Embassy New Zealand welcomes applications from non-proft organizations/nongovernment organizations (NGOs) and private, public or state institutions of higher education.
- For-profit entities are not eligible to apply.
