The U.S. Embassy The Hague Public Affairs Section has announced an open competition for organizations to submit applications to:
- produce an English- and Dutch-language pilot version of a counter-disinformation game,
- produce a French version of the game,
- produce one additional translation into a European, Asian, and/or African language, to be determined at a later date,
- host the game on the company’s own servers, and
- develop and implement data collection and analysis methodologies to demonstrate the project’s achievement of expected results, and
- promote games to target audiences.
Purpose of Grant: Grants are intended for local representatives of civil society, including non-governmental organizations and universities (non-profit organizations only).
Priority Themes
Competitive proposals should always include a connection to one of the priority themes listed below:
- Innovation and Entrepreneurship – Programming that highlights American innovation and entrepreneurship, security of critical and emerging technologies, and partnership between the United States and the Netherlands in fields related to technology, cybersecurity, and entrepreneurship.
- The Environment & Climate – Proposals that showcase U.S. public and/or private sector efforts to address climate change, or amplify joint environmental efforts between the U.S. and the Netherlands.
- Countering Malign Influence – Activities related to monitoring, exposing, and countering foreign state and non-state disinformation efforts, including illegal, unfair, and coercive economic practices. Activities may also include those that advance positive narratives about the United States delivered by credible voices.
- Military & Security Partnership – Programs that increase public understanding of and support for the shared military and security priorities of the U.S. and the Netherlands.
- Transatlantic Values – Initiatives that promote an accurate and positive image of the United States and the transatlantic partnership, highlighting shared history and values, including diversity and inclusion, human rights, and democracy.
Funding Information
Typically, awarded grants are between $5,000 and $25,000 in size.
Eligible Activities
Activities that are typically funded include, but are not limited to:
- Bringing an American expert speaker or performer to the Netherlands;
- Programs that engage key audiences in experiential learning activities;
- Conferences, workshops, or discussions on issues of mutual interest;
- Exhibitions of works by Americans or on American themes;
- Youth engagement, leadership, cultural, and education programs;
- Programs promoting STEM studies (Science, Technology, Education, and Mathematics) particularly those that target under-served communities;
- Radio, television, and social media programming or campaigns.
Eligibility Criteria
- The U.S. Embassy The Hague encourages applications from all sectors: committed and organized civil-society organizations, local representatives of civil society, think tanks, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions.
- The U.S. Embassy The Hague encourages applicants to provide cost-sharing from additional sources in support of this project. The U.S. Embassy also encourages projects that use highly skilled volunteers as an element of cost-sharing. Applications should explain clearly other likely sources of funding and how the volunteers will be used.
