The Community Foundation of West Georgia is seeking applications for its Alice Huffard Richards Grants to enhance life in Carroll, Haralson, and Heard County communities through targeted investments in the three key focus areas.
The Alice Huffard Richards (AHR) Fund was opened in 2004 to further the philanthropic efforts of Ms. Alice Huffard Richards.
Focus Areas
- Early Child Development
- Efforts designed to develop young children’s “reading readiness” and early literacy skills
- Access to local, high quality early educational opportunities
- Professional development of the local, early childhood development workforce
- Early screening and intervention for preschoolers around problems that could limit educational success (speech, hearing, vision, development, autism and specific learning disabilities)
- Approaches that prepare parents to effectively support their child’s early learning, develop reading readiness skills and promote early literacy (parent coaching/mentoring, books in the home, etc.)
- Environmental
- Conservation and stewardship of the local region’s natural resources including:
- River and stream monitoring and activities that help ensure river and stream purity and availability of clean drinking water.
- This includes removal of trash and toxic items from land and waterways.
- Recycling projects and beautification of public space
- Community education and volunteer and community engagement
- River and stream monitoring and activities that help ensure river and stream purity and availability of clean drinking water.
- Leadership
- The purpose of the AHR Grant is to invest in the development of strong leaders in their West Georgia Communities. This grant helped the Junior Chamber achieve their goals of maximizing every opportunity for these students of becoming effective leaders for their community now and in the future.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must meet the requirements specific to each grant
- Applications must be submitted using their online forms.
- Early application is encouraged.
- Grant funding is restricted for use in Carroll, Haralson, or Heard Counties in Georgia.
- Only 501(c)(3) nonprofits or those operating under a 501(c)(3) nonprofit may apply.
- The grant year for funded applications will run Jan. through Dec., 2022
