The NSW Government is seeking applications for its Empowering and Supporting Local Communities Grants Program to deliver community-led grassroots projects supporting vulnerable members of their community.
Objectives
This program aims to fund community led initiatives that contribute to:
- decreasing the transmission of COVID-19
- increasing the number of individuals testing for COVID-19
- increasing the vaccination rates in affected LGAs
- reducing the movement of people in the community to help reduce the spread of COVID-19
- building the capacity to deliver and support the delivery of community led health communications initiatives
- encouraging local communities and services to build resilience to the impacts of COVID-19.
Funding Information
- Eligible organisations can apply for funding between $10,000 and $30,000 for their projects.
Target Groups
The priority groups are:
- emerging communities who may not have the established community infrastructure to help support them
- people with lower digital literacy and other barriers to accessing information
- young people (particularly those under the age of 24 years)
- seniors with additional vulnerabilities such as increased need for care, mobility support and experiencing social isolation
- people with disability
- carers
- women who are experiencing hardship
- families who are struggling to effectively help their children learn from home due to a range of vulnerabilities and barriers
- people who are experiencing domestic and family violence
- people who may be working in precarious employment
- aboriginal communities
- migrant and refugee communities
- other communities experiencing hardship
What can be funded?
Activities that can be funded include, but are not limited to:
- Delivery of services – for example, community engagement, health communication and education, distribution of health messages (in line with health orders and with support from the NSW Government), outreach and community support.
- Purchase of items – for example, emergency relief essentials such as food, personal hygiene, cleaning products, over the counter medicines, personal protective equipment, hand sanitizer and other relief essentials. Funding cannot be used to purchase alcohol, tobacco products, gaming services, computer software and hardware, mobile phones, laptops, tablets, routers, modems or other devices, entertainment systems, TVs and whitegoods.
- Other community-based activities – that support target groups to protect themselves and follow public health messages.
All successful applicants will be required to distribute NSW government health messages, to meet the needs of the communities where the projects are being delivered.
Eligibility Criteria
- Incorporated non-government organisations (not-for-profit)
- Registered Associations under an Act of Parliament
- Registered Cooperatives under an Act of Parliament
- Company Limited by Guarantee
- Company Limited by Shares (non-profit distributing)
- Other community based organisations registered or established under an Act that are not-for-profit
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Corporation registered under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (Cth) or a Local Aboriginal Land Council under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (NSW)
- To be eligible for funding all organisations must have held a valid ABN prior to 30 June 2020.
