The Office of Press, Culture and Education of the United States Embassy in Bolivia / Office of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) Center for Cultural Heritage of the United States Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit a declaration of interest (SOI) to carry out a program (or programs) to support the preservation of cultural sites, cultural objects and collections, and forms of traditional cultural expression.
Objectives
Appropriate project activities may include:
- In the case of cultural sites: the preservation of an ancient or historical building, the preservation of an archaeological site, or the documentation of cultural sites in a region for preservation purposes
- In the case of cultural objects and collections: conservation treatment of an object or collection of objects of a museum, site or similar institution, which includes, among others, archaeological and ethnographic objects, paintings, sculptures, manuscripts and general needs of museum preservation; assessment of the needs of a collection with respect to its state and strategies to improve its state of conservation; inventory of a collection for conservation and protection purposes; creation of secure environments for the storage or display of collections; specialized training in the care and conservation of collections
- In the case of forms of traditional cultural expression: documentation and audiovisual recording of traditional music, autochthonous languages and dance forms for their wide dissemination as a means of teaching and subsequent preservation, or support for training for the preservation of endangered traditional applied arts or crafts.
- Special note on places and objects that have a religious connection: The establishment clause of the US Constitution allows the government to include religious objects and places in a grant program under certain conditions. For example, an object with a religious connection (including a place of worship) may be the subject of a grant for cultural preservation if the object obtains its primary meaning and is nominated solely on the basis of architectural, artistic, historical or other criteria. cultural (not religious).
Funding Information
- Minimum amount of individual grants: $10,000 per project
- Maximum limit on the amount of individual grants: $200,000 per project
Eligibility Criteria
- Recognized and responsible non-commercial entities, such as non-governmental organizations, museums, ministries of culture or similar institutions and organizations, including organizations based in the United States subject to Section 501 (c) (3) of the tax code, that are registered and active on SAM.gov and can demonstrate that they have the experience and capacity to manage cultural heritage conservation projects.
