The Al Jazeera Media Institute (AJMI) is accepting applications for its Island Fellowship Program that aims to encourage academic research and provide an opportunity for journalists and researchers to learn about practical experiences and study them in depth.
This would contribute, along with the efforts of many Arab and international institutions, to improving the profession of journalism and crossing into the future.
The Al Jazeera Fellowship Program is designed to give journalists and researchers the opportunity to write a research paper of up to 7,000 words on a field of journalism. The applicant will be able to:
- Join one of the work teams within the Al Jazeera Media Network, and see the work environment closely.
- To meet with editors-in-chief, journalists and people concerned with the topic of research.
- Work in an appropriate environment that includes a variety of experiences, and provides academic and professional support and guidance.
- Access to references and information sources owned by Al Jazeera Media Network, such as the archive, the library of Al Jazeera Center for Studies, equipment and devices for media work, the museum, and others.
Program Goals
- Encouraging innovation and academic and field research, especially in the field of digital journalism.
- Producing knowledge and enriching Arabic content in the field of journalism.
- Enabling journalists and researchers to closely familiarize themselves with the work environment and learn about modern practices.
- Improving the quality of the journalism profession, and enhancing its ability to adapt to modern technologies

Program Duration
- The island fellowship program extends for two months divided into two phases:
- The first stage – remotely: the researcher prepares the research plan and completes the introduction to the research from a distance.
- The second stage – at the headquarters of the Al Jazeera Media Network: Completion of the remaining stages of the research
Eligibility Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree.
- At least two years of work experience in the media field
- Enjoy substantive writing skills sober.
- Have an initial ability to research academic sources.
- Very good language skill in both Arabic and English (speaking and writing).
Requirements
In addition to completing the online application form, all requirements must be submitted in “PDF” format except for video or photo materials, and if they are not met, the application will be immediately disqualified.
