The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce applications are open for the 2022 Youth Ambassadors Program (YAP) with the Caribbean.
Through the exchange, participants will develop their leadership skills, strengthen their ability to serve their communities; and foster relationships and mutual understanding among youth from different ethnic, religious, and national groups and create networks of youth leaders in the Western Hemisphere.
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the YAP exchange program is part of the U.S. continued commitment to the prosperity of Guyana and the region. During their exchange, high school students and adult educators from the Caribbean region and the United States will explore themes such as civic education, leadership, cross-cultural connections, and community service. After the program, students will develop and implement projects that serve the needs of their communities in the months that follow. The program will be held in August 2022. If safe travel is not possible at the time of the YAP exchange, this program will be conducted virtually.
The Youth Ambassadors Program brings together outstanding young people between the ages of 15 and 18 from across the Americas for an enrichment program to promote mutual understanding, increase leadership skills, and prepare youth to make a difference in their communities.
Students and adult mentors from across the Americas participate in an intensive and highly interactive three-week cultural and leadership exchange program focused on civic education, community service, youth leadership development, and home stays with American families. Follow-on activities are an integral part of the program, as the students apply the knowledge and skills they have learned to implement projects that serve needs in their communities under the guidance of their mentor.
Eligibility Criteria
This program is open to public high school students 15-18 years of age, with at least one semester of high school remaining after August 2022 and who are current residents and citizens of Guyana.
