Deadline: 31-Jan-22
The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is pleased to launch an open call for the 2022 Ignite Stage Program to provide an opportunity to expose ideas and initiatives in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) to the global DRR community.
The seventh session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2022) will be organized and convened by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) from 23 to 28 May 2022, in Bali, Indonesia, hosted by the Government of Indonesia. The event will be co-chaired by the Government of Indonesia and UNDRR.
Objectives
The objective is to complement and expand the range of topics and projects discussed at the GP2022 beyond those presented in the main sessions and side events.
Following the GP2022 theme “From Risk to Resilience: Towards Sustainable Development for All in a COVID-19 Transformed World”, the GP2022 Ignite Stage will focus on how the COVID-19 pandemic has challenged the traditional understanding of risk and disaster risk governance. Through a range of interventions, it aims to explore how the global crisis can be turned into an opportunity for the necessary radical transformation needed to achieve the goal and targets of the Sendai Framework, as well as of the 2030 Agenda.
They are aiming for a comprehensive and balanced coverage of DRR themes at the Ignite Stage but they are particularly encouraging applicants willing to share projects and ideas related to the GP2022 key themes and cross-cutting themes as per the list.
- The key GP2022 themes are the following:
- The GP2022 cross-cutting themes are:
- Stocktaking and accelerating progress in achieving the goal and targets of the Sendai Framework
- Leave no one behind – investing in local action and empowering most at risk
- Accelerating and integrating disaster risk management to sustainable development and climate action
Format
- Selected Ignite Stage participants will be asked to share a video of maximum 15 minutes in length to present a theme, project or initiative.
- The GP2022 Ignite Stage will have two venues – a virtual one on the GP2022 website and a physical space at the GP2022 conference at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center in Bali, Indonesia.
- Virtual Ignite Stage: video recordings of interventions prepared by all the selected participants will be shared through the GP2022 website. Records of interventions will be available to all registered participants online at any time during and after the GP2022.
- Physical Ignite Stage: due to uncertainties at the time of planning, it is foreseen that a certain number of selected participants will additionally be invited to present at the Ignite Stage in person. The modalities for in-person participation will be shared with the selected presenters closer to the event. Live interventions at the physical space will not be broadcasted.
- There are no fees involved nor are proposals funded. Applicants are asked to indicate whether they, in addition to featuring an online presentation, want to present in-person at GP2022. Those participating in person are expected to cover their own travel and accommodation costs.
Eligibility Criteria
- They invite different stakeholders and participants – Member States, Parliamentarians, Local Governments, United Nations system entities, Intergovernmental Organizations, Major Groups and other stakeholder groups – who are registered for the GP2022 and have a unique email address after registration to submit an application.
- If your organization fits one of the above mentioned categories, they invite you to apply. The event is open to global applicants.
- Please note that the GP2022 registration approval process may take up to five weeks – you are therefore encouraged to register for GP2022 as soon as possible.
