The Environment and Conservation Fund (ECF) is offering Waste Separation Projects to Pave the Path for Municipal Solid Waste Charging.
The purpose of this funding scheme is to educate the public the importance of reducing waste at source, to promote the culture of “use less, waste less and recycle” and to practise proper source separation of waste and clean recycling, so as to get the entire community prepared for the implementation of quantity-based MSW charging in Hong Kong and reduce waste. Its aim is not merely to enhance community awareness, but to mobilize collective actions within different sectors so as to maximize the benefits of charging in terms of waste reduction and recycling.
The projects should be community-based and result-oriented, aiming to encourage all sectors in the community to try out how to implement quantity-based MSW charging in the respective sectors with features that can help the waste producers to better understand the type and quantity of wastes they generate / dispose, to develop practices on proper source separation of waste and clean recycling, to help the waste producers get prepared for complying with MSW charging and to develop measures to reduce waste in order to pay less.
Duration
The projects shall consist of three parts:
- the preparation stage,
- the trial stage, and
- the post-trial evaluation stage. The duration of the trial stage shall be at least three months and not exceed six months.
Eligibility Criteria
- Local non-profit making organisations (e.g. community bodies, green groups, etc.) are eligible to apply.
- All non-profit organizations/organizations in Hong Kong (such as community organizations, environmental groups, etc.), ownersIncorporated corporations, owners’ organizations or residents’ organizations (such as owners’ committees) are eligible to apply
