The Montana Department of Natural Resources & Conservation (Montana DNRC) is inviting applications for the Reclamation and Development Project Grants, for projects that compensate Montana citizens for the effects of exploration and mining on Montana lands and serve the public interest and the State of Montana.
Categories
The proposed project must provide benefits in one or more of the following categories:
- Reclamation of land, water, or other resources adversely affected by mineral development;
- Mitigation of damage to public resources caused by mineral development;
- Research, demonstration, or technical assistance to promote the wise use of Montana minerals, including efforts to make processing more environmentally compatible;
- Investigation and remediation of sites where hazardous wastes or regulated substances threaten public health or the environment; and,
- Research to assess existing or potential environmental damage resulting from mineral development
Funding information
- DNRC will recommend no more than $ 300,000 for most projects. DNRC may recommend up to $ 500,000 for a project if the applicant has clearly demonstrated multiple natural resource benefits, the need and urgency of the project, and the financial need and unavailability of other funds to complete the project.

- Abandoned Mine Reclamation
- Brownfields Cleanup
- Abandoned Hazardous Waste Site Cleanup
- Abandoned Oil and Gas Well Cleanup
- Mining Related Mitigation Projects
- Crucial State Needs (a documented set of circumstances or conditions that require action to prevent or eliminate severe and unacceptable damage to Montana's environment)
Eligibility Criteria
- Any department, agency, board, commission, or other division of state government or any city, county, or other political subdivision or tribal government within the state may apply for a grant from the RDGP.
