Deadline: Ongoing Opportunity
Applications are now open for Pulitzer Center’s Bringing Stories Home: Local Reporting Grants. The initiative is designed to help local U.S. newsrooms cover the big, underreported stories that affect us all—and through education and other outreach promote the public engagement that is essential if their democracy is to thrive.
Objectives
- They aim to support teams that reflect the communities they report on.
- They hope Bringing Stories Home can help their partner organizations advance their diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and commitments.
Eligibility Criteria
- News outlets eligible for participation in Bringing Stories Home include all those serving local U.S. communities.
- The Pulitzer Center is already actively working with partner outlets in many cities, from Milwaukee to Louisville to Tucson to St. Louis. Bringing Stories Home represents a major investment in local news, providing resources to cover stories that might not otherwise get told.
- Freelancers are eligible for Bringing Stories Home grants as long as they publish their stories in U.S. local outlets.
Additional Information
Applications must include the following:
- A description of the proposed project in no more than 250 words.
- A thorough publication plan. Letters of interest or commitment from editors and news outlets should be included.
- A preliminary budget estimate, including a basic breakdown of costs. Travel grants cover hard costs associated with the reporting; please do not include stipends for the applicants. Local reporting partner/translator/driver fees are acceptable.
- Three samples of published work, either print or broadcast.
- Three professional references. These can be either contact information or letters of recommendation. The latter is encouraged when letters from interested producers or editors are available.
- A copy of your curriculum vitae.
