Deadline: 15-Sep-22
The Alberta Blue Cross is pleased to announce their Built Together program to help Albertans build spaces for active living in their community.
Whether it be a skate park, playground, outdoor gym or sports court, they're giving back to Albertans and helping them live their best lives.
Funding Information
Five $50,000 grants will be awarded, with one grant in each of the following regions: Edmonton, Calgary, a secondary city, a rural community and an Indigenous community.
What do they fund?
Built Together funds infrastructure projects that foster active living. Eligible projects include but are not limited to:
- outdoor gyms,
- cycling paths,
- construction or replacement of playgrounds,
- skate parks, and
- outdoor rinks.
Programs must be publicly accessible and free of a membership charge.
Eligibility Criteria
- Community leagues, school councils, municipalities or other non-profit community groups or organizations with new projects in need of funding are eligible to apply.
- Organizations must provide services without regard to race, religion, creed, gender or sexual orientation.
- Priority will be given to projects that reflect their Built Together mandate of promoting active living and wellness at a grassroots community level, with an emphasis on children.
- To ensure province-wide representation, they split grants with one in each of the following communities: Edmonton, Calgary, a secondary city, a rural community and an Indigenous community with a focus on ensuring grants are equitably distributed on a regional basis over the life of the program.
Ineligibility Criteria
- A project that has already received funding through this program (formerly, the Healthy Communities Grant Program).
- Religious or sectarian organizations.
- Organizations based or operating outside of Alberta.
- Projects that are programming and not infrastructure specific.
- Political organizations.
- Competitive sports teams and private clubs.
- Contract fundraisers or lobbyists.
- Organizations seeking funding for infrastructure projects not open to the public.
- Infrastructure that requires a fee to access.
Selection Process
- Need in the community – are there similar projects nearby or other projects that serve the same demographic well?
- Accessibility – are there any barriers to the community to use the project (are there fees, equipment costs or is the project accessible to all community members?)
- Funds raised – how close to being fully funded is the project?
- Overall cost of the project – what impact do their funds have towards the total cost? How much of the project does their grant fund?
- Distributing projects across Alberta – have they funded projects in the community previously? Are they funding projects equitably across the province?
