The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is pleased to announce a call for proposals for Lebanese Municipalities through the Eyes of Future Journalists and Filmmakers.
UNESCO has engaged with Youth to create change, and is committed to empowering them by equipping them with the right tools to be capable of making informed decisions.
In Lebanon, UNESCO Beirut office is committed to helping younger generations increase their involvement in the decisions affecting their livelihood. Also, they are committed to assisting youth counter disinformation and hate speech in addition to promoting media and information literacy plus access to information especially during elections time.
This activity is made possible by the Government of Netherlands, within its support to UNESCO’s flagship initiative Li Beirut.
Assignment
This call targets NGOs, organizations, and institutions working with youth. The selected organization will need to undertake the following:
- Selection of the youth participants: Selecting journalism and film making students (at least 20 taking gender balance into consideration) from Lebanon’s different regions and universities in consultation with UNESCO with agreed upon criteria;
- Development of the boot camp agenda: Providing in consultation with UNESCO a full agenda on trainings and panel discussions to be provided during the boot camp;
- Selection of trainers: Selecting experts in the needed fields for both the theoretical and applicative parts of the camp;
- Training of youth selected: Training selected participants on municipalities’ mandate, municipal elections reporting and combating hate speech and misinformation during municipal elections’ period. Also, a specific training is needed for film-making students on news reports filming;
- Production of professional reports: Dedicating part of the camp for the production of professional on-field news reports on municipalities and municipal elections. One report is requested to be produced by each team comprising of one journalism student and one film-making student;
- Document the work: Producing audio-visual material of the ongoing activities of the boot camp;
- Reporting: Providing a detailed report to UNESCO on the concept and implementation of the boot camp.
Eligibility Criteria
The target of this project are Lebanese journalism and filmmaking students with ages ranging between 19 and 22, with a special focus on ensuring gender balance.
