The Murray River Council’s Local Heritage Fund Program is now open for applications to provide funding for conservation projects (e.g. repair of original features and painting in period colours) for heritage items and items of heritage significance within Murray River Council.
Funding Information
A total of approximately $11,000 is available in Murray River Council’s 2022-23 LHF. Generally, grants are given for amounts between $1,000 and $5,000.
What projects can be funded?

Projects funded through a Local Heritage Fund may include (and not be limited to):
- conservation works and maintenance works projects
- adaptive reuse projects
- urban design projects that support heritage
- interpretation projects
- conservation management plans.

Generally funding should not be provided for:
- new buildings
- routine maintenance (e.g. lawn mowing, gutter cleaning, or carpet cleaning)
- projects where adequate funding is available from the applicant or other sources
- new commemorative monuments or works
- purchasing heritage buildings
- relocating buildings or work done to relocated buildings
- private headstones, unless there is no possibility of descendent support for the project
- floodlighting of heritage buildings
- purchasing equipment
- moveable railway heritage items.
Eligibility Criteria
- All owners or managers of eligible heritage projects that are the Murray River Council Local Government Area.
- Please note state government agencies cannot apply for funding but may be involved as a project partner.
Criteria
Funding is targeted to projects with:
- public benefit to a precinct e.g. main street
- sustainable long-term heritage benefits
- public benefit and enjoyment
- innovation and leadership
- capacity and commitment to undertake the project
- funding equity and cost effectiveness
