Nominations are now open for the Young Creatives Awards which provides young people the opportunity to hone their creative skills in a competitive environment and to have their work seen and published.
The competition culminates with prizes being awarded in two formats: writing and art across three age groups: 12 to 15, 16 to 18 and 19 to 24 years.
Types of award
- Writing Award : Submit a piece of writing (1000 words), either a short story, a fan fiction, poetry, review, or a piece of prose responding to an item from the Inner West Libraries collection.
- Art Award: Submit a photo of an artwork, (drawing, painting, photography, collage, sculpture) or digital piece inspired by or responding to an item from the Inner West Libraries’ collection.
- The art and writing works can reference any item from the Inner West Library and History collection. This includes print, CDs, DVDs, books, magazines as well as every item in their digital collection wh hich encompasses newspapers, magazines, DVDs, audiobooks and digital books and their local history online archives.
Categories and prizes
- Young Writers Award and Young Artists Award Open to:
- Ages 12-15
- Ages 16-18
- Ages 19-2 4
- Prizes:
- First prize for each age group in each category: $500 cash
- Runner-up prize: $250 cash
- Librarian’s Choice : $100 cash
Eligibility Criteria
The awards are open for young people aged between 12 to 24, who study, work or live in the Inner West Council area.
