UNDP Timor-Leste through its Arafura and Timor Seas Ecosystems Action Programme phase 2 (ATSEA-2) is calling for proposals from duly qualified registered Local Non-Governmental Organizations, Civil Society Organizations and Community Based Organizations (NGOs/CSOs/CBOs) towards implementation of the specific activities related to marine turtles’ conservation in Lautem Municipality.
Objectives
The main objective of this call for proposals is to engage competent non-governmental organization/civil society organization to support legal establishment of a local women led nature conservation group/cooperative in Com and support implementation of a project and/or specific activities on sea turtles’ conservation in Lautem Municipality.This is further aimed to promote ecotourism and livelihood opportunities for the local communities through the established nature conservation group/cooperative while strengthening management of marine coastal resources. Priority will be given to such projects that contribute to overall habitat and sea turtles conservation goals as well as implementation of actions, specific to Timor-Leste, outlined in the regional sea turtle action plan for the Arafura and Timor seas (2021-2026).Specifically, proposed projects should address the following program priorities.
- Nesting Beach Habitat Restoration, Protection, and Management
- Building and Maintaining Capacity for Population-Scale Conservation
- Promoting ecotourism opportunities for the local communities
- Promoting Sustainable Fishing Communities through Reduced Sea Turtle Bycatch in Focal Fisheries
Funding Information
The maximum amount of the award grant is $60,000 for a period of one year.
Eligibility Criteria
- Organization
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in locally operating in the field of nature conservation, marine conservation, environment, natural resources management or a closely related development field.
- Project Team
- Should have at least two qualified natural resource managers, with a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in Timor-Leste.
- Excellent knowledge of the Timorese laws and legal system and experience working with local communities, other community-based organizations on coastal resources management projects in Timor-Leste.
- Experience working with UNDP, other UN entities, donor organizations or development organizations is an asset; and
- Strong case management, monitoring, and reporting experience
- Head of NGO/CSO/CBO
- Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, managing, and monitoring programs and projects; and
- Demonstrated experience of effectively and efficiently managing finance with accountability and transparency
- Language: Fluency in Tetum and English (both oral and written).
