The Italian Australian Foundation (previously Italian Services Institute) and the International Specialised Skills Institute (ISS Institute) are offering two (2) international applied research Fellowships in the amount of $10,000 each in the later half of 2022.
The Italian Australian Foundation Fellowship provides an opportunity for Australian residents of Italian descent to acquire higher-level skills and drive leading practice and innovation in Australia. It is intended that the Fellowship will demonstrate potential benefits for, and application in, Australia.
Applications should focus on areas in which Italians have both traditionally, in modern times and now emerging, made outstanding contributions to the world, including: industrial skills in building, agriculture, culinary arts, artistry, artisanship, design, communications, inventiveness, technology and innovation, advanced manufacturing, scientific research, energy and the environment, and IT.

What does a Fellowship involve?
- Fellows must use their Fellowship payment to undertake applied international research.
- Overseas Fellowship research may include meeting knowledgeable leaders, conducting interviews, observation, immersion in workplaces, undertaking specialized training or attending specialist conferences.
- Fellows must manage their Fellowship funds personally to arrange their international activities.
- Fellows must prepare a formal Fellowship Report documenting findings and recommendations for industry / skill enhancement in Australia within 12 months of receiving their Fellowship. ISS Institute will assist with the editing, design and publication of this Fellowship Report.
- Fellows participate in a Fellowship Induction Program and are proudly supported by ISS Institute staff throughout the Fellowship period (and beyond).
- Fellows must arrange for time off work with their employer to undertake the overseas applied research component of their Fellowship. While the Fellowship is being awarded to the individual and not their employer, it is important that the employer supports the individual’s application and will enable to individual to meet Fellowship obligations.
- Fellows will be supported throughout their Fellowship by the ISS Institute team.
Eligibility Criteria
- Australian residents over the age of 18 years.
- Australian resident of Italian descent.
- Applicants can be located anywhere in Australia.
- Applications are open to Australian residents of Italian descent. Preference will be given to candidates who will be traveling to Italy as part of their Fellowship, however innovative Fellowship proposals that require travel to other destinations will also be considered. Applications will also be considered from Australian residents not of Italian descent but who wish to visit Italy to undertake their Fellowship.
