The GEF Small Grants Program (GEF-SGP) is pleased to launch this call for proposal in partnership with the Papua New Guinea Biodiversity and Climate Fund, a newly-formed national institution with the mission to catalyze financial and technical resources to enable present and future generations of Papua New Guineans to restore, protect, and enhance the country’s biodiversity and build resilience in the face of climate change.
The GEF-SGP aims to support the Biodiversity and Climate Fund achieve its mission, by aligning its granting program around the Fund’s five programmatic themes.
Thematic Areas
Proposals should meet the criteria under the following GEF thematic areas of:
- Biodiversity Conservation,
- Protection of International Water,
- Prevention of Land Degradation and Sustainable Forest Management,
- Climate Change and
- phasing out use of persistent organic pollutants.
Funding Information
SGP will consider grants up to USD$30,000.
Criteria
The criteria that will be used in assessing submissions will be based on;
- Promotion of innovative community-based initiatives to reduce local environment threats,
- Build local capacity to implement sustainable development strategies creating “local ownership and institutional capabilities”
- Demonstrate high replicability, co-financing and scaling up potential
- Foster public awareness on environmental issues as an integral part of the project
- Address livelihood, equality and gender concerns and sensitivities
- Involve women, marginalized populations and isolated communities as equal partners in programme implementation
- Create an impact, influence policies and partnership at the National, Provincial and local levels in the country,
- Generate local knowledge and involvement of communities in planning, flexibility, partnerships and transparency in their approach during implementation of activities in projects
