The UN-Habitat is seeking expressions of interest (EOIs) from interested partners, NGOs, with strong presence and experience in Kigoma region for undertaking this project in a period of not more than four months.
The purpose of this project is to ensure that the Uvinza DC, Kasulu TC, and Kigoma DC communities and the selected primary schools have increased access to improved sanitation facilities (improved pit latrines) and hygiene services.
This project is being implemented as a part of the UN Kigoma Joint Programme (KJP). The UNKJP is intended to improve human security in the region of Kigoma which receives refugees from the neigbouring Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Initially, the KJP focused mainly on the 3 districts of Kasulu, Kibondo and Kakonko. Overtime however, the project was changed and is now implemented in all districts in Kigoma. The Joint Programme is being implemented under the framework of Phase II of the United Nations Development Assistance Plan (UNDAP II) 2016-2021 through a Multi-Partner Trust Fund.
It consists of 16 UN agencies cooperating in 6 outcome areas of sustainable energy and environment, youth, and women’s economic empowerment (YWEE), violence against women and children (VAWC), education with a focus on girls and adolescent girls, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and agriculture with a focus on developing local markets.
UN Habitat works under the WASH theme alongside UNICEF and WHO. UN Habitat focuses its resources and efforts in Uvinza District Council (DC), Kigoma DC and Kasulu TC.
The grant is intended to construct improved toilets in 26 primary schools in the three selected local government authorities in Kigoma region (Uvinza DC, Kasulu TC, and Kigoma DC).
- In Kasulu TC, the selected primary schools are:
- Juhudi,
- Nyansha,
- Mwilamvya,
- Kibagwe, and
- Kigondo,
- Bogwe, and
- Nyumbigwa.
- In Kigoma DC, the selected schools are:
- Kasuba,
- Msimba,
- Nyangwe,
- Simbo,
- Kamara,
- Kiganza na
- Nyampemba.
- The selected schools in Uvinza DC are:
- Nyanganga,
- Tambukareli,
- Lulengelule,
- Sunzu,
- Kalenge;
- Lugufu,
- Malagarasi,
- Lugonia A, and
- Mwamila,
- Nyambutwe,
- Miembeni, and
- Chakulu.
It is expected that in each school, the improved toilets to be constructed will have six improved pit holes and one dignity room.
Criteria
EOI should contain, but not be limited to the following:
- Overall background of the institution particularly its experience in undertaking similar projects;
- Overall methodology of undertaking the project-detailing activities to be undertaken, time framework, innovations, and budget;
- The support/ contribution the organization is willing to make including:
- Cash and in kind;
- Governance and organizational structure;
- Experience and qualifications of key professional staff and infrastructure facilities of the organization; and
- Certified true copy of original Audited Account Statement for the last two years; and
- The latest annual report.
