Nominations are now open for the Active Suffolk Awards 2022.
This years event will be the fifteenth prestigious award ceremony celebrating local individuals, teams, communities, volunteers, professionals and schools across the county who have overcome adversity through participation in sport and physical activity, been successful in their chosen sporting discipline or who have contributed towards supporting the people of Suffolk to be more active regardless of age, ability, or inequalities.
The Active Suffolk Award Categories
- The Sports Personality of the Year
- The Young Sports Personality of the Year
- The Active Unsung Hero
- The Active Community of the Year
- The Activity Champion of the Year
- The Active Club of the Year
- The Active Primary School Award
- The Active Secondary School Award
- The Team of the Year
- The Innovative Project of the Year
Criteria
- The Sports Personality of the Year
- The Sports Personality of the Year Award will go to an elite sportsperson who:
- Has had significant success or outstanding performance during the past year on the regional, national or international stage.
- This can include an individual who has made a big difference to a team
- Was born or trains in Suffolk
- Are aged 19 and over
- Note: Must be aged 19 or over on 31st August 2022.
- The Sports Personality of the Year Award will go to an elite sportsperson who:
- The Young Sports Personality of the Year
- The Young Sports Personality of the Year Award will go to someone who:
- Has had significant success and progress over the last year
- This can include an individual who has made a big difference to a team
- Was born or trains in Suffolk
- Are aged 18 and under
- Note: Must be aged 18 or under on 31st August 2022.
- The Young Sports Personality of the Year Award will go to someone who:
- The Active Unsung Hero
- An Active Unsung Hero is an individual of any age who is passionate about the benefits of physical activity, movement, and sport, and who volunteers their time within the local community to inspire local people to be active.
- The Active Community of the Year
- The Active Community Award will celebrate a group of individuals from any local village, neighbourhood, community group, local faith group or residential area that have collaborated to ensure physical activity is an important part of what they do.
- The Activity Champion of the Year
- The Activity Champion of the Year Award will go to a paid individual who is passionate about the benefits of physical activity, movement, and sport amongst those living within their local community. This can include an individual who advocates physical activity and sport through a professional role or who works as a coach or instructor in the sport and leisure sector.
- The Active Club of the Year
- The Active Club of the Year Award will celebrate a sports or leisure club in Suffolk that works tirelessly to offer inclusive support empowering the community to be active, participate in sport and bring people together. This could be a sports club, an online community, a running club, swimming club, you name it, they want to hear about them!
- The Active Primary School Award
- The Active Primary School Award will celebrate a primary school that advocates physical activity beyond their PE lessons. The award will acknowledge a Suffolk Primary School that continues to be a great example for other schools in the local area and that is continually striving to improve the physical activity levels and health & wellbeing of their pupils.
- The Active Secondary School Award
- The Active Secondary School Award will celebrate a Secondary school that advocates physical activity beyond their PE lessons. The award will acknowledge a Suffolk Secondary School that continues to be a great example for other schools in the local area and that is continually striving to improve the physical activity levels and health & wellbeing of their pupils.
- The Team of the Year
- The Team of the Year Award will go to a Suffolk team in a sporting discipline or sporting event who:
- Have made a notable performance over the last year for their sporting discipline in Suffolk.
- A team which may have overcome adversity, performed on the national stage or completed an incredible season of sport etc. over the last year.
- A team that might demonstrate inclusivity and diversity.
- The Team of the Year Award will go to a Suffolk team in a sporting discipline or sporting event who:
- The Innovative Project of the Year
- The Innovative Project of the Year Award will go to a group or organisation who have delivered an innovative sport & physical activity project during the year. The project will have made a significant impact on the lives of local communities and will have helped them overcome barriers to being physically active and so reducing health inequalities.
